Google Podcasts Discontinued

Google Podcasts closed in the U.S. on April 2, 2024. Here’s what to do next.

Google shuttered its first podcast app in April of 2024. Similar to the end of Stitcher, there isn’t much a podcaster can do about this closure. We do encourage our podcasters to distribute their show to alternative listening platforms (see this Help article for a full list.)

What About YouTube Music?

Google is redirecting podcasters to utilize YouTube Music in replacement of Google Podcasts. It’s ultimately up to you to decide whether or not you wish to distribute your show on that platform. For a full breakdown of how YouTube works with podcasts, check out our blog here

If you’re thinking about distributing your show to YouTube, we do think it’s important to note that YouTube acts a bit differently than all of the other listening platforms. Rather than streaming your episodes, YouTube makes a copy of your Feed and re-hosts the content. This means that any updates or changes you make to your Feed are not reflected on YouTube. You’ll need to manually make those updates.

Additionally, YouTube does not allow for third-party advertisements like Programmatic Ads. So, you must opt out of Programmatic Ads if you want to distribute your show to YouTube. Alternatively, you can use our YouTube integration which removes dynamic content for you!

At the very least, we recommend that you distribute your show everywhere that you can! See this Help article for instructions on distributing your show on a ton of different platforms.
